This project started in 2020, at the end of the year. As we got closer and closer to Christmas, we were thinking about helping others in need. As many of our colleagues have pets, we thought we would organize a donation program for animal shelters. We chose 2 shelters to support: one is Gyömrői Árvácskák, which is located near to our office, the other one is Mini Menedék Madaras, a poor little shelter close to the Serbian border.

We wanted to choose a shelter in the countryside, as in Hungary animal shelters far from the capital receives less attention, less promotion, and less support, although the animal protection culture is very poor at the countryside. We chose another shelter close to our office, as we were planning to visit them regularly, organizing a kind of team building event for our colleagues.

The donation program was organized on a voluntary basis: colleagues could give food, equipment, monetary donation, and other useful things. The project became a big success, moreover, the company itself supported our program with buying 170 kgs of dog food. In total, we could collect around 300 kgs food, medicines, vitamins, dishes, and equipment for the two shelters. In February, we delivered the donation personally to Gyömrő and to Madaras. Both shelters were extremely happy and grateful.

We became enthusiastic about the success of the donation, so we decided to organize a regular program: every month we visit the Gyömrő shelter on a voluntary basis. We walk with the dogs, help to clean the kennels, or to groom the dogs. It is a big fun for all, including people and animals as well. Besides that, finally we can meet each other, as we are still working form home because of the pandemic.

At the end of last year, we organized a donation again, for both shelters. Gexpro Services supported again our program: with the help of the company, we could send 320 kgs of dog food to Madaras. Colleagues were also enthusiastic, so we could donate to the Gyömrő shelter as well, moreover, we decided to sponsor the shelter’s foster care program, and virtually Gexpro Services adopted a dog for one year. We can say we are one of the few organizations having a company dog! 😊
